Projects and events

Within the framework of its management duties and on behalf of its tenants Locum undertakes investments and performs maintenance. In all, these efforts amounted to SEK 1,500 million in 2010.
Expenses that will result in future financial benefits are classified as investments and recognised in the balance sheet as assets. Expenses that involve restoration of function and standards are charged to income as maintenance costs.

About 1,000 investment and maintenance projects are currently in progress at Stockholm County Council properties. These range from surface finishing to high-grade conversions, extensions and newbuilds. Locum is building to meet the demand from tenants and is guided by the principle of sustainability. Significant investments are being made to provide scope for future improvements in healthcare.

A selection of current projects is presented below:

New pneumatic tube system improves efficiency in healthcare

Karolinska University Hospital in Huddinge is acquiring a new pneumatic conveyor system. Eight kilometres of tubes will speed up the dispatch of laboratory samples, mail, blood bags and pharmacy consignments. Tube installation began in December. The work will take 14 months, and the cost is estimated at around SEK 70 million.

Upgrade for facades at Stockholm South General Hospital


Picture of the hospital's new facadesStockholm South General Hospital is set to regain its title as the white pearl of Södermalm. Upgrading of the northern facades of the hospital started in the autumn of 2008. The aim is to restore the original functional style. The renovation will additionally contribute to energy savings.

The investment is estimated at SEK 130 million, and the project will be completed in the summer of 2011.

 

 

Helix

Picture of staff SquareConstruction of the new Helix forensic psychiatry facility at Flemingsberg began in March 2010. The expected moving-date is in the fourth quarter of 2012. This is Locum’s largest project since it was formed in 1991.

The aim is to create premises with security approval that can eliminate the present overcrowding, allow for future expansion and improve the care environment and the working environment for staff.

Well separated flows in the building, ease of overview and clear logistics allow the strict security requirements to be met while making the facility easy for staff to move around in. The architecture utilises and develops the qualities of the site in the attractive rock-floored pine forest.

Locum adopts stricter accessibility requirements

Locum has decided to follow the stricter requirements on disabled access for the physical environment applicable to government agencies. The rules relate, for example, to the slope of ramps, size of lifts and all entrances having to be made accessible in newbuild projects.

New acute-care building at Danderyd University Hospital

Illustration på Danderyds sjukhus nya akutvårdsbyggnadThe new acute-care building gives the hospital a general and flexible building with low energy consumption and raw materials. The focus is on people and safety: patients and their families will feel a sense of security. At the same time, more efficient use can be made of both medical equipment and premises. In addition, the building supports the change in care towards a more team-oriented and process-oriented approach.

Gross floor area: 48 000 square metres covering nine floors.

Timetable: The investment will require decisions for implementation by the County Council Assembly, and no date has yet been set. After a decision is taken it will take five to six years to complete the building.

Emergens

Picture of the new acute-care building at Stockholm South General HospitalIn February 2010 the jury chose “Emergens” as the winning entry for the extension of the operating suites, emergency department, maternity/obstetrics and sterilisation unit at Stockholm South General Hospital. With “Emergens”, the hospital can acquire premises that are appropriate to their purpose and offer smart logistic solutions, which will contribute to more efficient care, improved patient safety and greater privacy for patients.

Gross floor space of extension: Approximately 35 000 square metres gross floor area.

Timetable: The investment will require decisions for implementation by the County Council Assembly, and no date has yet been set.
